James Edward Grant — USA — Western / Romance
Three riders against the red rock

This was John Wayne's first film as a producer, the debut release of his own production company, and a deliberately unusual choice for that debut: Wayne plays a wounded gunslinger nursed back to health by a Quaker family, in a story that argues for pacifism winning out over gunplay. It's the first sound-era Western on this site, next to a run of silent ones, and one of the more openly gentle films Wayne ever made his name on.
