Gulliver's Travels was Fleischer Studios' answer to Disney's Snow White, and only the second animated feature ever released, rushed into production specifically to prove Max and Dave Fleischer could compete at feature length. The waking-on-the-beach sequence, Gulliver dwarfing an entire kingdom's worth of tiny staked-down ropes, became the single most reproduced image from the film and the one most audiences still remember. Its copyright was never renewed at the required interval, a lapse that also freed Popeye and Superman's earliest Fleischer cartoons decades later, though this is the studio's only full animated feature to fall into the public domain this way.
