Styling a sister's hair
This is considered the earliest surviving Chinese American film and one of the earliest US films directed by a woman. Marion Wong founded the Mandarin Film Company at just 21 years old specifically to counter the "yellow peril" caricatures common in films of the era, casting her own family as the crew and cast. The film was never commercially released, and only two of an estimated seven or eight reels survive, rescued decades later from a relative's garage; it entered the National Film Registry in 2006.
