Tumbleweeds restages the actual 1893 Cherokee Strip land rush with a cast of hundreds, and it was William S. Hart's final film after a career as one of the silent Western's biggest stars. A 1939 re-release added an eight-minute spoken prologue, the only time Hart's voice was ever captured on film, reflecting on what he called "the glories of the old west."
